At our first-ever Innovate conference, we welcomed over 300 attendees from 40 schools from three continents.
Leading educators gave 65 presentations in two days on a rich and relevant range of topics: leadership, instructional technology, infrastructure, digital citizenship, differentiation, assessment, 21st century literacies, the arts, collaboration in local and global communities, and physical education. Leaders in technology, education, entepreneurship and media spoke and participated in panels on what they envisioned for the future and the need for innovation in education:
|Fabio Gandour, Chief Scientist at IBM Research in Brazil, at Innovate2013's closing panel spoke on the need for discomfort to truly innovate. |
"Innovate 2013, hosted by Graded School in São Paulo, ended last Sunday, and now hundreds of freshly-charged innovators are heading back to their schools from as close as Sampa itself to as far away as Mumbai. A pleasant "we're all friends here" vibe pervaded the event...I can't help but feel that, with so many engaged and qualified educators so enthusiastic about the potential offered by current innovation opportunities -- both for us and for our students -- transformational change is on the horizon." William Tolley, Learning and Innovation Coach at the International School of Curitiba, Curitiba, Brazil
"We began to develop the skills to powerfully use technology to improve student learning to creating positive change at Colégio Internacional Puerto la Cruz. Innovate has enthused teachers to be a part of an online community to share with others, seek out resources, and stay up-to-date with current 21st century best practices." Marisa Abreo, Colegio Internacional Puerto la Cruz in Barcelona, Venezuela
