Lower School
As you explore the hallways and courtyards of Graded's Lower School, you'll discover a thriving and inclusive community where everyone feels a sense of belonging. Our diverse group of educators and learners come from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, creating a rich tapestry of perspectives and experiences that enriches the learning environment.
For our youngest students, aged 3 to 5 years, their journey begins in a mixed-age Montessori pre-primary class. Initially hesitant and reliant on a familiar adult, these students soon develop independence and a love of self-directed learning, emerging as confident six-year-olds ready to transition to first grade.
Once they enter the wider community, students join single-age classrooms and begin using more technology. They explore the "big" playground and gradually make their way up the ramp to second grade, eventually settling in our busy central courtyard as third graders.
Fourth grade brings a whole new level of excitement with the first overnight trip, and fifth graders are carefully prepared for the transition to Middle School. Throughout their time at Graded's Lower School, students have opportunities to explore music, delve into art projects, and develop their physical abilities through physical education.
From the independent learning of the Montessori experience to the changing classroom environments in fifth grade, we believe that our students are at the heart of their own education. Our goal is to help them become empowered, ethical, and engaged citizens in a dynamic world. We invite you to join us on this exciting journey of growth and discovery!
