Lower School Library Lending Guidelines

• The number of materials students may borrow when visiting with their homerooms varies by grade level:
  • Early Years Program (pre-kindergarten and kindergarten): Two books
  • Grades 1 & 2: Three books
  • Grades 3-5: Four books
  • Students will be able to check out an additional book in Portuguese with their Portuguese classes. 
• Students must check out their books at the circulation desk before leaving the library. 
• Students are limited to two books in a series.
• Students in grades 1-5 may check out materials for two weeks and pre-primary for the 8-day cycle. 
• Materials may be renewed, on or before the due date, unless another patron has placed a hold on the resource. 
• Students with overdue material may not borrow additional material. 
• Overdue notices are sent weekly. Notices are sent electronically by email to parent email addresses. 
• For students in the Early Years Program with overdue books, the library will "keep" books overnight for checkout the next day if the overdue books are returned. 
• Students in grades 3-5 will be able to place "holds" on books that are unavailable due to being checked out by others. Students in grades 1-5 are not able to "hold" books that are available in the library. 
• All patrons will be responsible for the replacement cost of lost or damaged material. 
• At the end of first semester, library material that is more than two months overdue will be marked as lost. The replacement cost will be included in the next tuition mailing if not resolved beforehand.
• At the end of the academic school year, students must clear their library accounts. Students and parents will be notified of outstanding accounts by email, letter, and/or phone call.
• If a “lost” item was paid for and is subsequently found and returned to the library in good condition during the same academic school year, the patron’s replacement money will be refunded.

Library Expectations

The library is a safe place to learn, discover, explore, imagine, investigate, locate and access information, collaborate, browse magazines, and read for pleasure. To ensure that the library meets the needs of ALL patrons, please adhere to the following expectations:

• Students and parents are welcome to visit the library before and after school to return books and check out materials.  
• While in the library, talk quietly and walk. Students wishing to socialize and run around should take advantage of the playground.
• The treehouse is available to a maximum of 10 students at a time. 
• Students are expected to listen to and follow instructions from all members of the library staff. 
• Using technology (iPads)  in the library is for browsing the catalog and library resources and should not be altered.
• Students are permitted to play board games and LEGOs before and after school as well as during assigned recess times. Students are expected to organize the games and put them away after use. 
• Ensure that books don't get misplaced in the library. If  you do not know where a book belongs, please leave it at the circulation desk, in the circle or with one of the library staff. 
• Eat and drink outside of the library. Water is allowed.
• We want the fabulous library to be in wonderful condition for years to come. Please keep the library neat while respecting the space and furniture. 
• Students who do not comply with the above expectations may lose the privilege of using the library and will be asked to go to the playground.
