Exemplary Eagle: Grade 5 Student Albert C.

The Graded Gazette

The audience waited with anticipation as a young dancer dressed in a Michael Jackson-inspired sparkly suit stepped onto the stage. As soon as the opening beat dropped, it was clear that this year’s Graded’s Got Talent final act would be something special.

It wasn’t his first time taking the spotlight. The previous year, Albert C. delivered a show-stopping performance in the annual lower school talent show that had left everyone talking. Dressed as a ninja, he blended piano, dance, gymnastics, and taekwondo into a high-energy routine inspired by the movie Sing 2

When Albert took the stage this time, expectations were high. When the music—a mashup of iconic songs spanning the decades—filled the auditorium, Albert launched into Evolution of Dance, a routine inspired by a YouTube video he had watched with his parents. Each section featured moves from a different era, seamlessly stitched into a fast-paced performance: the moonwalk, the worm, and his favorite—a jump-split. He ended by dramatically breaking a wooden board, drawing an explosive reaction from the crowd.

Ten-year-old Albert’s connection to dance began early—well before he was born.

“My mom tells me I started dancing when I was inside her belly,” he said. “When I hear a song I don’t know, in the first 10 seconds, I already know the rhythm. I feel like I’m one with the music. Ever since I was little, I have told her that one of my dreams is to fill a stadium with people who are coming to see me perform.”

Albert joined Graded in grade 2. That same year, while watching the talent show, he was captivated by the energy on stage. He left the auditorium determined to create a performance that would wow his classmates and teachers. He auditioned the following year, and the rest is history!

His parents have been a steady source of support, helping him brainstorm ideas, attend classes, and calm his nerves when doubt creeps in. “Whenever I’m feeling nervous,” Albert said, “they’re always there, telling me everything will be okay.”

While dance is a major part of Albert’s life, it’s far from the only thing he loves. He is a black belt in taekwondo, a beginner gymnast inspired by both his sister and the Olympics, a pianist, a tennis player, and an all-around enthusiast for trying new things. His weekly schedule is packed, but he wouldn’t have it any other way.

“I like activities where you work really hard,” he said. “Sometimes it’s challenging, sometimes it’s easy, but the important thing is that you try your best.”

Through these experiences, Albert has learned about leadership, respect, and perseverance, lessons he carries into the classroom.

“Albert truly lives the Eagle Way—kind, responsible, and always thinking of others, especially when welcoming and helping new students,” said Lower School Associate Principal Annie Neill. “He brings out the best in our school community by embracing our core values, supporting school activities, and making sure everyone feels included.”

When he’s not performing, Albert enjoys writing—especially about animals—learning about sports in PE class, and spending time with friends and family. When asked about the future, he doesn’t limit himself to just one dream.

“I’d like to write a book,” he said. “Or maybe do shows around the world.”

Given his natural rhythm, curiosity, and love for the stage, it wouldn’t be surprising if he did both.
