New Culinary Center Brings Graded Community Together Through Food and Culture

Graded parents recently gathered for the first event in the school’s new Culinary Center, a beautiful space designed to bring people together through food. The Culinary Center will serve as a hub for interdisciplinary learning, creativity, cultural exchange, and community building.

The PTA’s inaugural Cultural Gathering, a dumpling class, brought families together to celebrate Graded’s multiculturalism. Led by Chinese mothers from our community, the hosts created a festive atmosphere and guided participants in making authentic dumplings while sharing the stories and traditions behind the dish.

Looking ahead, the Culinary Center will become a versatile space for learning and connection. Teachers might explore science concepts like the Maillard reaction or emulsification through cooking experiments, link sustainability with climate-friendly recipes, apply culinary storytelling to literature and history, or demonstrate mathematics using ratios in baking. The space is expected to host after-school cooking classes and more community workshops. More than just a kitchen, we hope the Culinary Center becomes a symbol of Graded's diversity, strong community connections, and learning that extends beyond the classroom.
