Kindergarten Students Participate in the Inaugural Class in Graded’s New Culinary Center

During the week of Halloween, our kindergarten students were the first learners to participate in a class in Graded’s new Culinary Center, where they baked spooky crinkle cookies.

Working collaboratively, students explored the basics of baking as they learned how ingredients come together to form cookie dough, practiced rolling and shaping, and discovered how coating the dough in powdered sugar creates the signature crinkle effect once baked.

Then, they brought their imagination to life by decorating their treats with vibrant Halloween colors and toppings.

Beyond the joy of baking, the lesson supported important developmental skills, including:

  • Fine Motor Skills: Rolling dough, stirring ingredients, and decorating with icing strengthened hand-eye coordination and motor skills.
  • Practice in Following Instructions: Students followed step-by-step recipe directions, worked together in groups, and practiced patience while waiting for their turns.
  • Creativity: Decorating allowed for creativity and self-expression through design, making each cookie unique.
  • Safety and Hygiene Awareness: Students learned kitchen safety rules, such as handling hot surfaces with care, and the importance of cleanliness, including washing their hands and wearing hairnets.

This inaugural class in the Culinary Center set the stage for many more hands-on learning experiences to come, and our young chefs are already looking forward to returning to the inspiring new space.
