Grade 7 Celebrates Pi Day with Fun Math Activities, Scavenger Hunt, and Real-World Geometry Challenges
On March 14, Ms. Nugent’s and Mr. Lichtenauer’s 7th-grade math classes celebrated a very special holiday—Pi (𝛑) Day! Students participated in a Pi Day Scavenger Hunt that challenged them to think creatively and apply their math skills in real-world scenarios.
The hunt started with brain teasers: identifying letters with rotational symmetry, listing companies with circular logos, and naming their favorite round candies. Then, they researched flags that incorporate circles and famous figures with birthdays on Pi Day, noting their accomplishments. (Did you know that Albert Einstein was born on March 14?)
Next, they ventured beyond their classroom seats. Students used natural objects to create the 𝛑 symbol and were challenged to form the symbol with their bodies in their teams. Finally, they solved riddles to find locations where they could measure circular objects around campus. They calculated diameters, areas, and circumferences, applying the formulas they've been learning, before being directed back to the classroom for a surprise—pie and 𝛑 temporary tattoos!
