Grade 1 Celebrates 100 Days of School
Our first-graders recently marked an incredible milestone: 100 days of learning, growing, and discovering! They are now 100 days wiser and have accomplished so much.
The celebration wasn't just a fun occasion; it was an opportunity to deepen numeracy, foster collaboration, and strengthen fine and gross motor development in an engaging, hands-on way. Each first-grade classroom hosted activities, and students rotated among the classrooms throughout the day. The activities allowed students to build a concrete understanding of place value, skip counting, and number sense by grouping objects into tens, creating collections of 100, and exploring patterns. Whether they’re counting by twos, fives, or tens, students strengthen their ability to see number relationships and structure in a way that goes beyond rote memorization.
Beyond the world of math, grade 1 teachers designed the activities to encourage students to embrace teamwork and problem-solving, tackling challenges like constructing impressive towers with 100 cups and searching for 100 words hidden throughout the room. They also completed 100 exercises at a movement station, engaging their whole bodies in the joy of learning. This lively day reinforced that learning is a journey, and every day counts—literally and figuratively!
