Brazilian Literature Week Celebrates Language, Creativity, and Culture

Graded celebrated Brazilian Literature Week with a campus-wide series of activities honoring Brazil's language, literature, and cultural heritage. In recognition of World Portuguese Language Day, students across all divisions participated in storytelling, poetry recitals, book exchanges, read-alouds, exhibitions, and collaborative projects that explored the power of language to inspire creativity, reflection, and connection.

A special highlight of the week was welcoming Indigenous Brazilian authors and illustrators, Mariana Carrara, Márcia Wayna Kambeba, and Olívio Jekupé, to campus for conversations and book signings, giving students the opportunity to engage directly with contemporary voices in Brazilian literature and culture.

The celebration also featured the launch of Vivas Palavras, Graded's annual literary publication showcasing original short stories, poems, and illustrations created by students in grades 4–11. This year's edition, inspired by the theme "Celebrar e Resistir" (Celebrate and Resist), included works in both Portuguese and Spanish, reflecting the creativity and diverse perspectives of the Graded community.

Students discovered their selected works during special assemblies, where each announcement was met with excitement and applause before families and friends joined the young authors and artists for celebratory autograph sessions.
